Student Associates


Student Associates are PhD and other graduate students who are interested in training and doing research in electronic security and privacy at ESP-IGERT.

Current Associates




Renee Powers is a first year PhD student in the Department of Communication at UIC. Her research interests include privacy and security policies on democratic practices in online spaces



Hale Thompson is a second year PhD student in the School of Public Health at UIC. His research interests include privacy and security in public health information platforms, mobile technologies for community building


Maliheh Monshizadeh is a second year PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at UIC. Her research interests include security problems of web applications and software analysis. 



Peter Snyder is Computer Science Ph.D. student working in the Department of Computer Science at UIC. His research interests include system and web-space security, machine learning, and distributed computing.


Ivan Brugere
is a first year PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at UIC. His research interest is in data mining problems related to security and large networks.




John C. Pendergrass is a third year Ph.D. student in the Management Information Systems program within the UIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business. His research interests include privacy and security issues within healthcare information systems and IT operations, particularly those concerning systems and database administration.
